SEO for photographers: Success part 2
I thought an update to SEO Success Stories would be fun considering how well most of our clients have been going lately. Paul is an old client updated. Luke & Alisha, Rene and Tami are new clients. I almost feel like an international man of mystery since two of these clients are outside the US. Just in case you wondered how that works for me, it apparently works just fine.
Paul Adams
Remember South Wales wedding photographer Paul Adams? I posted in an image of his Page 3 for South Wales wedding photographer. He was thrilled to be showing up and wrote me shortly after “Wow matt thats amazing!” I have an update.
How about #8 on Page 1 for the same main keyword. This was the #1 keyword Paul wanted me to target and we got ALL the way up the mountain.
Paul was near the bottom of Page 1 for Cwmbran wedding photographer. Now he’s not ON page 1, he is NUMBER ONE.
Clark Walker Studio – Albany wedding photographers
Luke & Alisha are great friends of mine and I wanted to really kick some butt when they asked me to do their SEO. This is a new, not an update so I can’t show you where they were. However, Luke told me he wanted to be “Page 1″ for Albany wedding photographers and Albany wedding videography. I told him what I’d tell you if you wrote me – I never promise page one because Google doesn’t work that way. But…
Page 1 – Result #6 for Albany wedding videography
Page 2 – Result #12 for Albany wedding photographers
Accidentally, we SEO’d some other strong terms for Clark Walker Studio. Like NY wedding videography and Saratoga wedding videography.
That is the cumulative effect of SEO and long tail keywords. I’m sure their site ranks highly for a LOT of keywords. (Page 1 for “weddings at Saratoga National” and “Lake George wedding photographer” – two things they never asked me to work on. If you do SEO correctly, this is how your SEO works.
Rene Minnis – Maine wedding photographer
Rene and I are old acquaintances because we graduated from the same high school. We found out much later that we’d both turned out to be pro photographers and Rene is amazing. I love her work and wanted to help her gain some traction on Maine related keywords. She had been sitting around #35 (middle of page 4) on Maine wedding photographer as long as I have been home.
Result #12 on Page 2! I’m happy for that and will hope to push her slightly higher onto Page 1 soon. She now joins me on Portland Maine wedding photographer as well as a Page 1 for Augusta Maine wedding photographer. She’s flown up New England wedding photographer to be #21 (top of page 3). Add in Page 1 for Portland Maine portrait photography as well as top results for Maine portrait photographer, Maine commercial photographer, Portland Maine commercial photographer and Page 1 for New England portrait photographer and Rene’s SEO has been kicking tail!
Tami Curtis – London and Herts wedding photographer
See how like nine of you just gasped when you read the name? For those who don’t know the backstory, Tami and I are both strong-willed personalities. We have clashed excessively in the past and have spent more time driving each other mad than helping each other grow.
After an initial email blow off where I basically told her to “just go do this and that.” to fix her SEO issues, she wrote me again. ” If you would like my business, i would like to hire you.” Well, everyone knows what’s coming next. ”I like money.” I decided I’d give it a shot, even if I felt scared that this would backfire.
Tami changed her business name and branding away from the word (l.0.v.e.l.y) and that word (that I won’t type for fear Google will pick it up) haunted her business name. The first order of business was to remove it from her Google listing, something I told her initially may or may not be possible.
Done.
On the general SEO work, we wanted to hit the London, England market and I wanted to make sure we kept Tami’s unique style intact. I was both shocked and happy to get an email from Tami telling me she’d been hit on “photographers, london England” as that’s a HUGE and broad search (286,000,000 results.) Page 4 – and happy!
How did I keep Tami’s unique rep working for her? England fine art photography, artistic wedding london, fine art portraiture in England … I think those definitely encapsulate her work. Oh yeah, she’s also Page 1 for wedding photojournalism in London England.
Oh yeah – she’s also #1 for fine art portraiture in London.
SUCCESS!
Tami wrote me a great email this morning I thought I’d share. I’m glad to be a part of helping photographers grow their business. SEO is a fantastic business for me to be in because I love to help people and love to watch their amazement as I can pull off Google SERP increases without resorting to dirty tricks. My clients tend to *stay* at the top of search.
I hope you enjoyed some of the updates as much as I did! Next stops: New Jersey and Cary NC for some much needed SEO help for two great photographers.
In business news – the waitlist is down to 4 photographers… if you want to get on it, now is a great time. I fluctuate between 3 and 10 people on the waiting list. I will only take 2-3 clients at a time so I can focus on the work I’m doing. I will not take on too much work and drown in it. I expect to take a few new clients by mid-August and clear the waiting list before the end of the month.
